There’s never been a better time to be a pharmacist

February 2020 – A fantastic time to be a pharmacist

A couple of years ago I posted on this site that there has never been a better time to be a pharmacist. I was wrong. There has never been a better time to be a pharmacist than now – February 2020.

Never before have pharmacists has so many opportunities to use their qualification and professional registration. It’s so exciting!

  • In community  – contractors can’t fill their pharmacies so you can negotiate a great remuneration package
  • Hospital Pharmacists – opportunities across the country in bands 6 and 7 opportunities for those pharmacists who want to be highly qualified in specific conditions
  • Pharmaceutical Industry – for those pharmacists wanting to work in pharmaceutics, Brexit will provide opportunities for UK based roles
  • Primary Care – at long last, Primary care and NHS England have finally realised what a massive impact pharmacists can have on primary care. whether it be freeing up GP time of medicines optimisation and management work, pharmacists are now front and centre when anyone in healthcare thinks of medication (why has it taken so long you may ask!)

The release of the updated DES of the 2020/21 GP Contract provides 100% funding for additional clinical pharmacists so Primary Care Networks will now be even more keen to employ pharmacists.
