Limitations of diagnostic services for Respiratory Services

All clinicians have been acutely aware of the limitations placed on care by the COVID-19 pandemic. Respiratory patients have especially badly hit with limitations to the use of spirometry, peak flow testing, inhaler technique testing and FeNO. I’m excited, therefore, to let you know that Medacy now has a solution for the restoration of respiratory diagnostic and review services, Clinicabin.

Medacy/Clinicabin Partnership

Medacy is delighted to announce a partnership with leading pod-style clinical room providers, Clinicabin. These compact, portable, innovative clinic rooms incorporate separated clinician and patient rooms with full visibility between the two and intercom for communication. The patient room has its own air exchange system facilitating one air exchange per minute (60 per hour) and state of the art UV-C decontamination system and heating system. Only 6 minutes fallow period is required between patients as opposed to between 2-3 hours in other environments with lesser air-exchange systems and this means more appointment per day and quicker restoration to as close to care as normal for your respiratory patients.

Built with loving care and clinical and engineering expertise

Clinicabin is designed and built by Pete Adams and draws on the experience of Claire Adams, the Respiratory Clinical Network Lead for Primary Care, North East and Cumbria. This understanding of the requirements for respiratory reviews is evident in the attention to detail of the Clinicabin and Claire’s desire to get services fully up and running again for patients with Asthma, COPD and other respiratory conditions. 

Although designed with respiratory patients in mind, this COVID secure environment could be used for all long term conditions during this and future pandemics or for easily installed and commissioned clinical space for a GP practice, PCN or hospital Trusts.  

The design of CliniCabin provides a safe environment for Clinician and patients alike due to the technology within. Every consideration to minimise touchpoints and the amount of contact between clinician and patient has been made.

Each Clinicabin includes:

• Separate rooms with a separate door entry system.
• Large vision panel between 2 rooms with intercom system and hearing loop provision- allowing communication and coaching of Spirometry procedure.
• Air exchange fans inpatient room – 1 air change per minute (60 per hour) 6 minutes fallow period needed between patients.
• Air conditioning/heating system with Panasonic ‘Nanoe-G’ technology.
• UV-C light decontamination system.

Requirements

CliniCabin requires set up of no more than 25metres away from a main surgery/hospital building and takes up less than 2 car park spaces.

For connection:

• Level grounding (or near to level as possible)
• 63amp single phase supply
• Access to external soil stack
• Water feed

Estates management required to be in attendance for delivery of CliniCabin to ensure access for connections to main building.

Costings: £38,000 (plus VAT). Includes delivery and installation.

How quick can we get back to normal?

Who know when or if we will get back to normal after COVID, but respiratory diagnostic services can be back up and running within an hour of the installation of the Clinicabin. This means that we can get back to face to face reviews quickly in an environment in which both clinicians and patient feel safe and comfortable.

Sounds great but how to we staff a Clinicabin?

The Clinicabin can be staffed by practice/PCN/trust staff or by a team of experienced Medacy Clinical Pharmacists and Nurses. Medacy are CQC registered and experts in the provision of innovative clinical services.
