The importance of rest
I’ve just come back from two weeks holiday in Cornwall. Having missed our family holiday last year due to the dreaded COVID, I was SOOO looking forward to it. The worry was, could it live up to expectations?
I need to let you know that this is my 30th-year of going to Cornwall, so there was no worry about not liking the place. On the contrary, I love Cornwall, even after the 13-hour trip back yesterday!! My worry was, could a simple holiday re-charge the batteries after such a traumatic and challenging 2020/21?
Time for a nana-nap
The answer is yes, but it took longer than expected to re-charge. It made me realise how much we need to take time out from work to fully appreciate how physically, emotionally and professionally tired you are. As my Twitter bio @shaunhockey states, I’ve been learning to surf for 30 years (still not very good!), but it took me 10 days to even get on a board this time. I didn’t wake until 9 am until the last two days of the holiday (again unheard of) and every afternoon on the beach led to at least one nana-nap!
So everyone, make sure you look after yourselves and take time to re-charge. You might not feel tired, but I’m sure you are. So invest in your own physical and mental health and take time to rest. I appreciate that for those with small children or caring responsibilities, this is much harder than it is for a 50-year old whose children are more than able to look after themselves, most of the time.
Exciting times ahead
So, the two weeks are up, and it’s back to work. Medacy has some fascinating projects currently and some we will be launching soon. I’ll be working hard with the team to deliver a fantastic service to our clients, but I’ll also be even more conscious of making sure the Medacy team members take time-out to rest, recuperate and re-charge.
The compulsory boring holiday photos follow!
