This morning I attended a funeral in Skipton, North Yorkshire. I wouldn’t usually write a blog post about a funeral, but I will make an exception for this one. The funeral was for Iain Murray, and Iain played a vital role in shaping where Medacy is today.
I first Iain in late 2014/early 2015 when he worked for Heartbeat Alliance GP Federation in North Yorkshire. The Federation had secured some money from the Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund and were looking for a partner to deliver a medicines management project, and the Federation approached Medacy. The project became My Medicines Manager and evolved to become the most extensive deployment of Clinical Pharmacists in England at the time. Those were exciting times, and Iain was a massive champion for clinical pharmacists working in General Practice.
Iain was fundamental to the success of the initial MMM project and then securing further funding for the larger project. I think that MMM played a crucial part in the rollout of Clinical Pharmacists working at scale in Primary Care in England. If it did, then Iain played a massive role in that.
Iain was a super-fit chap whose Instagram and Facebook posts made me feel tired just looking at them. He was an intelligent, considerate, generous man; he was a gentleman.
I can’t help feeling that Iain’s family have been cheated out of many years of a life together, but as his funeral programme stated, it was a life cut too short, but the life he had was a life well-lived.
