IIF 2023/24 Focus
So as we approach the last year of the 5-year Framework agreement, what will the 2023/24 financial year bring for clinical pharmacists? The information published on 6th March points the way for IIF 2023/24.
Yesterday’s publication of the GP Contract for 2023/24 indicates that clinical pharmacist will not be spending all their time delivering IIF indicators, and I have to say. I’m really glad that that’s the case.
I’ve become increasingly concerned that PCN Pharmacy teams have become distant from the day-to-day challenges of GP practices. When Medacy started supporting GP practices in 2015, well before PCNs were even a glint in their father’s eye, you could immediately tell what a massive impact clinical pharmacists could have in practice. I think PCN Pharmacists started well, supporting practices even though they were too thinly spread in the early days of PCNs.
During the Pandemic, many PCN pharmacists were used in COVID Vaccination centres for obvious reasons. However, during 2023/23 far too much time has been spent delivering IIF agenda indicators and not supporting GP practices struggling to keep their heads above water. IIF 2023/24 looks more encouraging though as the number of indicators have been reduced.
The Future
Although many questions still need answering following the letter’s publication yesterday, an IIF 2023/24 focusing on improving patient experience, access, and satisfaction is okay. After all, what are we all here for if it is not to help patients?
